Root Terms of Service

- Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using the Root mobile application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the app.
- Definitions
- “Root” or “App” refers to the Root goal-tracking mobile application and related services
- “User” or “You“ refers to any person who uses the App
- “Content“ refers to goals, milestones, photos, comments, and other data created by users
- “Rooting“ refers to the feature allowing users to cheer for and support others’ goals
- “Milestone“ refers to progress markers within goals
- “Services“ refers to all features and functionality provided by Root
- “AI–generated content“ refers to milestone suggestions and other content created by artificial intelligence
- “Third–party services“ refers to external API services used by Root
- Account Registration & Usernames
- You must create an account to use Root
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the App
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account
- Usernames must not impersonate others, contain offensive content, or violate rights
- You must provide accurate information during registration
- One account per person; no sharing accounts
- User Content & Privacy Settings
- You create and own your goals, milestones, photos, comments, and other content
- You control whether your content is private or public through app settings
- Private goals remain visible only to you and stay on your device, not a server
- Public content may appear on feeds and leaderboards

This license is limited to app functionality only and does not transfer ownership of your content.
- AI Generated Content & Milestone Generation
- Root uses AI to generate milestone suggestions for your goals
- AI-generated content may be imperfect or inaccurate
- Root is not responsible for the accuracy of AI suggestions
- You retain ownership of content you create, even when using AI assistance
- Acceptable Use & Prohibited Conduct
You may not:
- Harass, bully, or threaten other users
- Post illegal, harmful, or explicit content
- Share others’ private information without consent
- Create fake accounts or impersonate others
- Spam or misuse the platform
- Attempt to hack or compromise the service
- Evade bans or suspensions
- Misuse private goals or violate others’ privacy settings
- Moderation, Reporting & Bans
- Root reserves the right to moderate content and user behavior
- Users can report violations through the app’s reporting features (on other user goals and profile)
- Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans
- Account terminations will be communicated via email

- Security & Data Handling
- Root implements reasonable security measures to protect user data
- No system is completely secure; you help maintain security by keeping your account information safe
- We use encryption and secure API services to protect your information
- Security incidents will be handled according to applicable laws and our Privacy Policy
- Third-Party Services & Integrations
- Root uses external API services for feeds, backend services, and AI functionality
- These services have their own terms and privacy policies
- By using Root, you consent to data being processed by these services as necessary for app functionality
- Payments, Subscriptions & Refunds
Currently, Root is a free service. However we limit caps on some features. A subscription is required to unlock full access to all features and content. Payment will be charged to your App Store Account at confirmation of purchase.- The subscription will automatically renew unless turned off in your App Store Account Settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. From App Store Account settings, you can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renew. Your App Store Account will be charged when the purchase is confirmed.
- Intellectual Property & Brand Guidelines
- Root retains all rights to the app, logos, design, and branding
- Users may not misuse Root’s trademarks or brand assets
- Users retain ownership of their original content
- Disclaimers & No Guarantees
- Root is provided “as is” without warranties
- Root does not guarantee that you will achieve your goals
- The app provides tools for tracking and motivation, not professional advice
- Root does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service
- Limitation of Liability
Root’s liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Root is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
- Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Root against claims arising from your use of the app, your content, or your violation of these terms.
- Data Retention, Export & Deletion
- Your data is retained while your account is active
- You can request account deletion via the Root Settings tab, after which your data will be removed according to our Privacy Policy
- Children & Age Restrictions
- Root is intended for users 13 years and older
- Users under 18 should have parental permission to use the app
- If we learn a child under 13 is using the app, we will terminate the account
- Changes to Service & Terms Updates
- Root may update these terms at any time
- Changes will be communicated through the app or email
- Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance
- Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These terms are governed by applicable law. Disputes should first be addressed through our contact information below.

- Some features may be experimental or in beta
- Beta features may change or be discontinued
- Data from experimental features may be used to improve the service

- Root is not responsible for external websites or content linked from the app
- External sharing is at your own discretion
- Community Guidelines
Users are expected to maintain respectful behavior, support others positively, respect privacy settings, and report inappropriate content. Detailed community guidelines are available in the app.

Root is not a medical or therapeutic service. If your goals relate to health, addiction, or mental health, please consult qualified professionals. Root is for motivational and tracking purposes only.
